The bird of 2021 was chosen a European nightjar. It is the only representative of the nightjar in Belarus. There are about 120 species of this order in the world. The Russian name is a tracing paper from Latin and reflects the connection of this species with pastures and domestic animals, around which birds caught insects.
The European nightjar is nocturnal, during the day it usually sits with folded wings on the ground or on a tree branch, settling on it along, and not across, like other birds. The peculiar coloring makes it very similar to a laying piece of bark. Sometimes a hidden nightjar can give out shiny eyes, but in case of danger it usually covers them.
The project was prepared with the assistance of the public organization “Ahova ptushak Batskaushchyny”.
The stamp contains the logos of the global partnership of conservation organizations BirdLife International and the Belarus public organization "Ahova ptushak Batskaushchyny" (APB).
